Trip Overview
- Destination: Dominican Republic
- Dates: March 1 – March 8, 2025
- Objective:
- Participate in delivering quality healthcare to underserved Haitian populations in sugarcane plantations.
- Provide hands-on clinical experience for medical students.
- Offer treatment, referrals, and follow-ups in partnership with One World Surgery and UCE Medical School.
- Facilitate mentoring of 20-30 medical students in a 1:5 faculty-to-student ratio.
Partner Organizations
- One World Surgery Partnership – Provides surgical referrals and follow-ups.
- UCE Medical School – Supplies local medical students and interpreters.
- Government Support: Allows local physicians to volunteer and assists with international licensing.
Accommodations & Logistics
- Housing: Hodelpa Garden Suites, a 4-star hotel in Juan Dolio.
- Meals Provided:
- Breakfast (included with stay).
- Lunch (included in program fees).
- Farewell Dinner (included in program fees).
- Transportation:
- Provided by UCE Medical University for clinical activities.
- Local transportation available via hotel taxis for outings.
Personnel Requirements
- Physicians Needed: 2
- Medical Students: At Capacity
- Clinical Impact: Expected to treat 300-350 patients over three clinical days.
Costs & Fees
- Trip Fee (Excluding Airfare): $1,500 – $1,700
- Payment Recipient: MSU Institute for Global Health
- Additional Expenses (not included in above trip fee): Airfare, personal expenses, and optional activities.
Additional Notes
- Security Measures: All clinical sites vetted by MSU and UCE.
- Continuing Medical Education (CME): 32-40 hours of Category 1A CME credits available.
