Trip Overview

• Destination: Iquitos & Amazon Communities, Peru
• Dates: August 2 – August 16, 2025
• Objective:
  • Provide education, basic healthcare, and cultural support to Indigenous communities in the Amazon region.
  • Train medical students in global health, ethics, and primary care.
  • Facilitate continuous outpatient care, chronic disease management, and specialty referrals.

Accommodations & Logistics

• Housing:
  • 3-4 star accommodations with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and hot water.
  • Locations include DoubleTree Hotel (Iquitos), Explorama Amazon Lodge, and a 3-star hotel in Miraflores, Lima.
  • Double occupancy required (single occupancy available at a higher cost).
• Meals:
  • Breakfast included daily.
  • Lunch provided on clinic days.
  • One welcome and one farewell dinner included.
  • All meals covered during Amazon stay.
• Transportation:
  • Air-conditioned buses in Lima and Iquitos.
  • Domestic flights between Lima and Iquitos.
  • Three-tier boat for Amazon transportation and clinic use.

Personnel Requirements

• Physicians Needed: 15 (10 confirmed).
• Nurse Practitioners Needed: 2 (1 confirmed).
• Medical Students Needed: 30 (all confirmed).
• Medical Interpreters Needed: 25 (13 confirmed).
• Dentists Needed: 1 (0 confirmed).
• Other Specialists Needed: Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Infectious Disease, Podiatry, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (2 confirmed).
• General Volunteers Needed: 6 (4 confirmed).

Costs & Fees

• Trip Fee (Excluding Airfare):
  • $3,500 per person (double occupancy).
  • $4,300 per person (single occupancy).
  • Duration: 15 days, 14 nights.
• Payment Instructions: Provided after application acceptance.
• Additional Expenses: Airfare, personal expenses, emergency evacuation costs (if required).

Security & Medical Safety

• Security Measures:
  • Daytime travel only.
  • 24/7 local agents on-site with backup available.
• Post-Exposure Plan:
  • Transport to Lima or Iquitos hospital for evaluation and treatment.
  • Evacuation to the U.S. available at participant’s own expense.
